Historical Note

The Caribbean Petroleum Company began explorations in Venezuela in 1913. It was originally an affiliate of Barber Asphalt Co. In 1916, it became a member of the Grupo Royal Dutch Shell, and in 1948 changed its name to Shell Caribbean Petroleum Company.
