Historical Note
The Houston History Archives were an initiative of the University of Houston Center for Public History's Welcome Wilson Houston History Collaborative, along with Houston History magazine, the UH Memories Project, and the UH Oral History of Houston. The Houston History Archives partnered with the Special Collections department of the University of Houston Libraries to collect, process, preserve, and make available for research and teaching primary sources on energy management and development, environment, Houston's ethnic diversity, and a collection of oral histories from the Center for Public History that continues to grow.

The Bayou Preservation Association maintains files on its activities from its beginnings in the 1960s. Materials on the history of Buffalo Bayou date back to the 1920s, so the collection is dated from that period.
