This collection contains five series: Correspondence, Captain Albert H. Rooks Honors, Research Files, Photographs, and Memorabilia. Scope and Contents

The bulk of this series relates to Franklin Roosevelt's visit to Houston in 1936. Included are documents relating to planning the various events, such as the parade and visit to the San Jacinto Battlefield. There is some correspondence with various Democratic politicians, including Marvin McIntyre, Alfred E. Smith, Jr. and Henry Breckinridge. These materials were labeled by Bernrieder as belonging with the Roosevelt visit material.

Perales was very active in state, national and international politics and Civil Rights initiatives, as well as with local politics in San Antonio. This series contains 45 folders housed in 2 boxes. It contains 2 subseries, General Lulac information and LULAC correspondence. This series details the foundation of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a civil rights group dedicated to combating discrimination against Latin Americans in the United States. It was founded Feb. 17, 1929 in Corpus Christi. Alonso Perales was one of the founding members of LULAC and also served as the organization’s second president.
