Preliminary Biographical Note

On September 2, 2019, Raphaële Malandain, known as Raphaële, passed away peacefully in Houston, Texas.

She was a pioneer and visionary in the art and science of digital imaging. Raphaële and her partner, Gordon Wood, were the first to use computerized lasers in layers of emulsion for photo retouching. Founded in 1978, Raphaële Digital Transparencies set a global standard for an international clientele. Her corporate clients included companies as AT&T, Budweiser, Chick Fil-A, Disney, Exxon, Ford, Fruit of the Loom, Honda, IBM, Nike, New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal to name but a few in which her digital designs were featured prominently in their ads.

The collection contains newsclippings and publicity of Raphaële’s work as well as slides, prints, photos, negatives and transparencies of her portfolio of work used in corporate ads by many of the largest and most prominent companies around the world.
