Preliminary Biographical Note

Eleanor Wakefield was a long-time fine arts columnist for the Houston Chronicle during the 1940s and 1950s. Her husband, General Paul Louis Wakefield was also a reporter for the Chronicle and an executive assistant to Jesse Jones.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains correspondence, scrapbooks, and photographs documenting Eleanor’s experiences growing up and attending school in Houston during the early 20th century. The materials also document her family history as well as her contributed columns to the Houston Chronicle during the 1940s and 50s.
