UH Folklore Archives
Approximately 13 linear feet consisting predominantly of ethnographic interviews, fieldwork, and reports produced for folklore courses taught by Carl Lindahl and Susan Stahl for the UH English Department from the 1970s through 2010s. A sample of student work of the department’s first folklorist can be found in the John Q. Anderson Papers. The UH Folklore Archives documents the diverse cultures of Houston as documented primarily by UH students. The Folklore Archives also contains research Lindahl led on zydeco and Houston’s Frenchtown for a 1998 documentary project with Access Houston television. Approximately 40 photographs of Frenchtown and Fifth Ward shot by Ben DeSoto and used with his permission in the documentary have been transferred to the Ben DeSoto Photography Collection. The collection includes digital and analog photographs, digital and analog audio recordings as well as various formats containing textual data.
