Contained in three boxes, this series includes materials relating to early Houston, as well as Republic, State, and Confederate era Texas. Houston documents range from "Public School" and "Board of Aldermen" to the office of "Scavenger," as well as most other existing departments. The bulk of items date from the last half of the nineteenth century. Signatures include those of Augustus C. Allen, Sam Houston, Anson Jones, Albert Sidney Johnston, Ashbel Smith, and J. B. Magruder, among others.
