Domestic Violence (Spanish), 1997-2001

 File — Box: 28, Folder: 17
From the Series:

This series comprises 189 folders dating from 1975-2001. It includes a long term research project on “Prevention of Violence During Pregnancy”, undertaken with a grant from the Center of Disease Control (CDC), in conjunction with City of Houston Health Department and Dr. Judith McFarlane as research partners. This program was terminated earlier than the five year projection due to disagreements in regards to client follow-up. It provided direct counseling and education services, which required the training of mentors to implement. Thus, the amount of information is extensive, dating from the development of the research proposal, and grant application from 1993, until the termination of services in 1996. The series also includes the proceedings of the Research Committee, Research Proposals, and Research Papers. The survey on client attitudes about police response to family violence is found in Box 26, and it can also be considered as part of the ongoing research conducted by the center, which had a direct effect on law enforcement and legislation in regards to women issues.
