Roger de los Santos, February 16 1979

 Item — Box: 1, Cassette: 6, Side: A

Roger de los Santos discusses the opposition to bilingual education programs. He explains that educators and administrators saw bilingual education as a threat to the community and education system. They did not want to become aware of English-deficient children's needs and accommodate them, preferring to rather have the children fit into the current educational system. Additionally, the reinforcement of Spanish as an inferior language and the sentiments of people in American should speak English created a reluctance among parents to put their children in bilingual programs.
