Bautista, Titania, 2006
Summary: Titania Bautista, age 19, is a Katrina survivor from New Orleans. She speaks briefly about growing up in New Orleans and her life and attitude before the hurricane, and then relates at greater length her experiences at the Superdome, her evacuation to Houston, her unhappiness in Houston, and her influence in getting her parents to return to New Orleans. She relates the effects of the storm on her family, and, most notably, seeing a man killed during the evacuation and how her mother wanted to return to Guatemala. She speaks of the lack of services in New Orleans, and the economic difficulties she encountered in Metairie getting used to post-storm life in the New Orleans area. She mentions her faith in God and how the storm has taught her to value both her family and her life more than before.
