Poret, Raymond, 2006

File — Reading Room Computer: 1, File: SKR-AB-SR01

Raymond Poret [RP], age 56, is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana [NOLA] now living in Stafford, Texas because of Hurricane Katrina. His interview begins with some details from his early life and goes on to describe his adult life in NOLA. Then, after a few minutes describing the relatively calm situation on his job before Katrina hit, RP gives a long description of his evacuating before the height of the storm: getting a call from his hospitalized wife concerning the seriousness of the storm, gathering his spouse, her medical supplies, his step-daughter and her child, things he found strange during the tense drive to Alabama. After it became clear his entourage could not return to NOLA in just a few days as he had anticipated, they left to be with friends and family in Houston. Because of his wife’s condition they spent a night in Shreveport along the way.
