Darensbourg, Jacquelyn, 2006
Jacquelyn “Jackie” Darensbourg [JD] is a Katrina survivor from New Orleans, Louisiana [NOLA]. Her interview begins with some details from her early married life and goes on to describe her moving into Pontchartrain Park, the first black subdivision in New Orleans. Jackie then gives description of her evacuation and two week hotel room stay in Tyler, Texas. After it became clear she could not return to NOLA in just a few days as anticipated, she and five other family members left to move in with a family of five in Conroe, Texas. She now lives with her husband, her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in Spring, Texas. She has no plans to return to New Orleans.
