Renthrope, Ronald, 2006

Summary: Ronald Renthrope is a Katrina Survivor from New Orleans, Louisiana [ NOLA]. After a few minutes describing his community, Ronald began to talk about how many different views and thoughts about the decisions about evacuating or staying for the hurricane. Ronald speaks about his survival techniques and plans on how he prepared. RR tells how he saw the water rises at his neighbors house and how he rescued his neighbor. RR speaks about directing his neighbors out of danger from the flood. The mourning of the hurricane he stayed at his place of residence. He swam to Carrolton Ave to retrieve a friend’s truck and boat to rescue fellow New Orleanians from harm. After a small relief effort, he then fled out of town and explains some experiences that may have occurred. He describes his home for record. He describes a couple small events that may have took place in his community. He tells us directions to his place of residence from Interstate 10. RR explains his journey to Donaldsonville, Louisiana, where he stayed in a shelter, called the Dream Center. He then speaks about moving to another shelter in Donalsonville where he described the comforts of the living situations. FEMA provided the survivors with assistance and travel trailer homes in Morgan City , Louisiana. RR describes the travel trailer, city and it’s community. The experience of Katrina made it clear that Hurricane Rita was coming and RR needed to get safer shelter. He returned to previous shelter in Donaldsonville. RR relates NOLA , Morgan City and Houston to each other. RR speaks about his arrival to the Houston area and his adapting methods. RR talks about he’s return to NOLA and the disturbing emotions he experienced. The apartment RR is receiving in Texas is some what comfortable. He describes his opinion of the views of Houstonians. RR tries to get his life together in Houston and hopes for the best.
