Thomas, Dwyane, 2007

File — Reading Room Computer: 1, File: SKR-AH-SR05

Summary: Dwyane Thomas, age 39, is a Katrina survivor from Algiers Louisiana. He is the husband of one wife and father of two children. An 11-year-old daughter, and a 7-year-old son. He describes how he originally was going to ride out the storm in a local hotel, but after viewing the news he decided to leave NO, for the safety of his family. He spoke about the many hours that were spent on the highway towards Houston and how he was a little tensed because of the newness of the situation with this particular hurricane. He described how things have worked out better than he even expected for his family while living in Houston. He expresses appreciation for the people of Houston, starting with the Mayor and all representatives, and he gives God the glory for allowing him to receive employment which affords him the opportunity to educate and guide people and help them to prosper while here in Houston. He says that his eyes have seen wonders in a person who once struggled in NO, but are now eating the good of the land in Houston, is a wonderful sight to see. He has dedicated himself throughout the rest of 2007 to volunteering and enabling the people of NO to rebuild their lives in Houston.
