Alice Poole [AP] is a Katrina survivor from New Orleans, La. [NO]. Her interview begins with some details from her early life, and goes on to describe NO. Then, after a brief description of the relatively calm situation in NO before Katrina hit, Alice gives a long description of her experiences in the height of the storm: rushing to the attic to escape the water as it quickly fills the home where she and her family decided to take shelter, escaping from the rushing water, having to evacuate the home as it is being flooded, taking a boat through neighborhoods where she has walked everyday, to get to her destination of what eventually turned out to be “hell”. She then describes how she and her family escaped from NO, and, finally, how she went from not being wanted in Houston to getting help from anyone and everyone who knew they’d just survived “Katrina”.
