Additional Description

Summary

Oreila Poole [OP] is a Katrina survivor from New Orleans, La. [NO]. Her interview begins with very little detail of life growing up on the West Bank of NO and of her community where she lived before the storm. She gives a brief description of what it felt like anticipating the wait of the storm. Oreila begins to get more detailed as she describes the experience she had once the hurricane made landfall and the levees broke. She also describes her emotions while enduring one of the worst times of her life, and that is, waiting for some one to rescue her from what she called “slavery.” Last she tells a story of feeling as if she is being labeled for being a “hurricane evacuee” which forces her to return back to a city that is not fully up and running.
