Summary

Derick Braggs [DB], age 32, is a Katrina survivor from New Orleans, Louisiana [NOLA]. His interview begins with some details of his early life and goes on to describe how he was an adopted child and how he lived between Gretna, Louisiana and the 9th ward of New Orleans, he also briefly describes his life as a high school student. Prior to Hurricane Katrina DB decided to pursue his music career and while in the process he was working as a cab driver and one day he was shot in the head by one of his passengers. DB describes how this traumatic event has affected his life. DB moves on to describe how during his recovery he was informed that Hurricane Katrina was approaching and how he and his girlfriend ended up taking refuge in a downtown New Orleans hotel with his sister. He then describes their journey out of New Orleans while the water was rising and how they came to live in Houston.
