Additional Description

Summary

Ida Peterson [IP], age 65, is a Katrina survivor from the West Bank of New Orleans. Her interview begins with some brief details of her earlier life and moves on to reflect on some of the experiences she had with Hurricane Betsy. IP moves on to discuss how she did not want to leave for Hurricane Katrina but her daughter came to get her from her house and they went to Slidell, LA. They needed to evacuate Slidell because Katrina was a threat to that area as well when on the way they met a nice Doctor who tagged along and paid for all of their expenses including food and hotel rooms. They moved around from hotel to hotel until IP was able to find out that the rest of her kids and grandchildren where in Houston. So they decided to migrate to Houston when along the way the car broke down and a nice man helped them by repairing it and they drove the rest of the way to Houston where IP stayed in a apartment with over 20 members of family and friends until she was able to get her own place of residence.
