Additional Description

Summary

Amanda Foy [AM] talks about her childhood neighborhood in New Orleans, Louisiana. She recalls the fun times spent on Frenchmen Street. She remembers playing hopscotch, dodge ball, and other childhood games. She enjoyed living in that neighborhood. Her parents moved to the New Orleans East area of town but this neighborhood was quite different from the old neighborhood. It was very quiet, not many children but her brother had a friend that lived across the street from their home. Amanda was home school and thought that it had advances and disadvantages. The advantage was that she received the one on one attention and quality schooling because her mother was in school to become a teacher. One of the disadvantages of being home school for her was that she didn’t have the prom experience that she misses a great deal. Her experience in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina was horrible. She did not evacuate the city at her father’s request. He wanted his family to all stay together at the Hyatt Regency where he was a Security Manager. The strong winds of the hurricane hit the hotel and waters began to rise. Her father decided to leave the hotel with his family before it was too late to evacuate city.
