Additional Description

Summary

Theresa S. Berry (TB) age is 52, is a Hurricane Katrina (storm) survivor from the ninth ward; Press Park Homes (PP) area at 2901 Higgins Court, New Orleans, (NO) Louisiana. TB was a disabled homemaker before the storm. Upon learning about the storm, she was undecided of what she was going to do. She had no money or transportation to flee from the city. TB also had another problem; she had a dog, who’s named Precious, and there was where to leave her; so TB knew she couldn’t leave. TB decided to stay home and ride the storm out. TB was not alone because a few of her neighbors also stayed behind. Fortunately they rode the storm out safely but the flood that rose to the ceiling while she was still trapped in the house threatened her life. TB feels that the tragedies that occurred after Katrina could have been prevented if the officials had evacuated the people with the available buses.
