Additional Description
Summary
Chucky Shaffer [CS] is a survivor of hurricane Katrina from Slidell, Louisiana. Slidell is a small town considered to be a suburb of New Orleans on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. His story begins with background information, that he was from Mississippi originally, Pearlington, MS, where his mother still lives. He describes what it was like to be in Slidell when the hurricane hit, as well as what it was like after the storm. His descriptions of his mother’s home and her almost completely destroyed collection of Elvis Presley memorabilia. The interview went extremely well, and Chucky related his experiences very openly. Chucky needed to take a break near the end of side A, he needed a moment to collect his thoughts after talking about his brother being missing until January 27, 2006, the day before the interview took place.
