Additional Description
Summary
Charles Joseph III (CJ) was born and raised in New Orleans, La. He is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. His interview begins with him growing up in several different neighborhoods: Third Ward, Seventh Ward, Ninth Ward and the Uptown area of New Orleans. Life in New Orleans for CJ was not good. CJ describes his experiences relating to the storm: flood waters, people dying and falling out, arguments, aggravation, rescue, seperation from family members, hunger and homelessness. It is a story of survival. It is a story about togetherness. CJ and his brother arrived in Houston with hopes and promises of a better life. They try to get put their lives back together with only a strong will to live and something that his grandmother told them "Stick together and pray together". They are finding that this is the reason they survived. They plan to stick together in Houston and pray that they make it.
