Additional Description

Summary

Sanh Nguyen, [SN], about 59 years of age, is a Katrina evacuee. He left Vietnam through the Human [humanitarian] Operation Program in 1996 and arrived to Washington State. SN decided to move to New Orleans because he had heard that the commercial fishing industry was profitable. In 2002, SN was able to sponsor his wife and youngest son to the U.S. SN and wife quickly got a job in a Vietnamese bakery, and they both worked there until the day they fled Katrina. SN’s family fled with some friends and their journey took them to Texas. SN discussed the obstacles of his journey, what he and his family had to do to adapt to the new city, and the difficult decision he had to make between staying in Houston and going back to N.O.
