Additional Description

Summary

Hui Ngo, [HN], about 42 years of age, is a Katrina evacuee. HN had a difficult life growing up, both of her parents died when she was sixteen; therefore she had to take care of her four younger siblings. She left Vietnam in 2003 after marrying her husband. She lived in Corpus Christi [C.C.] for a while then moved to New Orleans [N.O.] because her husband couldn’t find any more work in C.C. In N.O., HN’s family lived in Versailles, a popular community for Vietnamese. Here, HN was much happier than she had been in Corpus Christi. HN was told to evacuate by her friends and family. She was very concerned about her three children and so she had planned to evacuate early. HN’s family along with two other families evacuated. HN shared that she and her family had received help from the government as well as the Vietnamese community in Houston.
