Correspondence, 1998

 File — Box: 22, Folder: 21
From the Sub-Series:

Over the years Ant Farm zealously guarded their intellectual property rights in the iconic Cadillac Ranch image, which they licensed for commercial purposes including numerous advertising campaigns and, in 1996, the Hollywood movie "Cadillac Ranch." Michels handled much of this lucrative activity for the group and coordinated with Ant Farm's attorney on licensing and litigation matters. The Cadillac Ranch sub-series consists of 5 boxes of correspondence, business and litigation files, clippings, restoration, and photographs for the year 1978-2002. Most of the material is from the post-Ant Farm period of the 1980s and 90s. Related to Cadillac Ranch is Michels' correspondence over several decades with Stanley Marsh 3, the Amarillo businessman who commissioned the sculpture. Marsh's letters were unusual - created on large format paper and bearing his distinctive signature in multiple colors of ink. These letters are housed in oversized folders in Boxes 122 and 123. Cadillac Ranch memorabilia is found in Boxes 101 and 105-107 with the series devoted to objects and memorabilia.
