Clippings, 1993-1994
In 1993 the design magazine Art Papers sponsored a competition for the design of the "Antemillennium Dollhouse," to address major issues of dwelling or housing in modern life. Michels worked with Leigh Bailey on an entry called the Dollennium 2000. Michels was inspired by the children's book, Heather Has Two Mommies (Leslea Newman and Diana Souza, 1989), to create a prototype dollhouse for a lesbian family. His entry included design drawings and a scale model of the multi-level tower design, populated by dolls. Perhaps in connection with this project, Michels developed an extensive collection of dolls and action figures, which can be found in Boxes 108-112. Materials from this subseries, dated from 1993-1996, include correspondence, press release, clippings, drafts, competition entry statement, contact sheet, and photographs.
