Historical Information
The Houston Alumni Organization (HAO) was founded in the 1940’s by a group of former students. However, the first alumni association housed on campus was the Alumni Federation, one of many vehicles initiated during the 1940’s and 1950’s to draw alumni back to the University. [1] HAO is governed by an alumni board of directors and is a non-profit organization which operates for the benefit of the University of Houston and its alumni. It is responsible for the overall alumni program and coordinates the constituent programs of the campus’ colleges and departments. Constituent associations are organized by college, school, department, or special interest affiliation. Clubs are organized by geographical area. Each association and club has its own board of directors. [2] (see UH alumni website for current listing).
Mission Statement: The Alumni Association is dedicated to supporting and serving the University of Houston and its worldwide community of alumni and friends.
Vision Statement: UHAA activities reflect priorities of our alumni and complement aspirations of the university, the colleges, schools, and various institutional components such as admissions, advancement, athletics, community and government relations, the faculty, student life, and university events. Through area clubs and constituent and special interest groups, UHAA adds dimension to the outreach capabilities of the institution and provides avenues for active engagement and support.
By administering fiduciary oversight for alumni groups, managing scholarship programs, communicating broadly and effectively, sponsoring leadership recognition and awards ceremonies, and developing and sustaining lifelong relationships, UHAA expands the capacity for the university to prosper. It is a requisite link between the university and its alumni and friends.[3]
Today the HAO is also known as the University of Houston Alumni Association.
