Homecoming at the University of Houston is a tradition dating back to 1946. The Homecoming Court, football game, and other festivities welcome alumni back each fall as a part of the UH Homecoming tradition. Homecoming is a week celebrating the University of Houston, uniting students and organizations, and showcasing Cougar Pride and Cougar Spirit during one of the oldest traditions on campus. For each day of Homecoming, there are different events for students, alumni, and the UH community. Another long-standing tradition, taking place at halftime of the football game, is the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King, which has always been a central part of the celebration. From the presentation of the first crown to Mary Ray Curry in 1946 to the touchstone victory of the school’s first African-American Homecoming Queen Lynn Eusan in 1968, and through the emphasis on academic and service criteria that accompany the award today, the recognition of the Homecoming Court has evolved along with the University itself over the years.
