Cougar Rainbow Histories Collection

 Collection
Identifier: 2023-008

The Cougar Rainbow Histories project documents LGBTQ+ life and individuals on the University of Houston campus-tracing the history and development of the LGBTQ Resource Center and the LGBTQ minor. As the project develops and grows it will document individuals, communities, and activities beyond the UH campus into the surrounding Greater Houston community and within Texas, with an area of focus especially on the 21st century. The goal of the Cougar Rainbow Histories project is to develop a digital library for several courses in the LGBTQ+ Minor (WGSS 2360, WGSS 3332, WGSS 4350, and WGSS 4360). Students will finish the class demonstrating what they have learned about LGBTQ+ history in Texas and through the project will have contributed in the continuation of this rich history by developing digital materials for the minor.

The Cougar Rainbow Histories Collection contains recorded oral history interviews and transcripts, documents, photographs, news clippings, and other artifacts and ephemera related to the project and individuals who were a part of the project.
