C. Patrick McIlvain Papers
The collection contains items that mostly document McIlvain’s personal life, the Walk for Mental Health Awareness – Houston, political organizing, and his involvement in sports. Some of the materials include correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, journals, planners, posters, CDs, newspaper clippings, poems, essays, button/pins, programs, directories, and a matchbook. There are also financial, legal, medical, and military records as well as framed items, plaques and trophies. Some of the items in the collection relate to his mother, brother and/or other relatives.

Biographical Note
Navy veteran and longtime activist, organizer and volunteer in the LGBTQ community in Houston, C. Patrick McIlvain is the Founding Director of the Walk for Mental Health Awareness - Houston. He is a founding member of the Montrose Sports Association and has volunteered on multiple political campaigns, including for former Houston Mayor Annise Parker. In 2024, McIlvain was named an Honorary Grand Marshal for the 46th Annual Pride Parade & Festival. Side note: McIlvain’s mother, Annella Harrison, is credited with founding the organization that would eventually be known as PFLAG Houston.
