Scope and Contents

Houston Heights is situated northwest of downtown Houston, Texas. This Collection contains records from the Houston Abstract Company, the Houston Title Guaranty Company, the Stewart Title Company, and the Southern Abstract and Title Company. This collection consists of 10 abstracts of title and deed for the property in the Heights district, in the city of Houston and Harris County, filed from 1896 to 1941.

Houston Ship Channel 50th Anniversary Collection

Included is a typed manuscript history of the Port of Houston and Buffalo Bayou, as well as a typed version of the ordinance establishing the Port of Houston in 1841. The Robert D. Jacobus Research Notes collection consists of 12 legal pads of notes used for research for his book Houston Cougars in the 1960s: Death Threats, the Veer Offense, and the Game of the Century. The notebooks are arranged by Jacobus's original numbering system and primarily contain notes from interviews with notable figures in UH sports conducted between 2007 and 2013.

W. D. Lowther Civil War Letters

The Lowther collection consists of 12 letters from Confederate soldier W. D. Lowther to his fiancee, Phronie or Fronie Autry, in Texas during the United States Civil War. Dated from June 1863 through May 1864, these handwritten letters are all accompanied by typed transcriptions, and a few folders contain handwritten transcripts as well.
