Ester, Chantella, 2007

File — Reading Room Computer: 1, File: SKR-ACR-SR06

Summary: Chantella Ester [CE], age 22, is a Katrina survivor from the Seventh Ward of New Orleans, LA. She was born in New Orleans and lived in many parts of New Orleans. CE was staying in the Seventh Ward at the time of the storm. Her house experienced minor damage, but the grocery store around the corner was submerged in water. Going through the storm was one of the scariest times of her life. She witnessed unnecessary looting, dead bodies and violence, but she also had to loot for necessities. CE does not want to remember some of the thoughts of Katrina. CE is a single mother who now lives in Houston which has helped her organize her priorities and life. CE believes victims of Katrina need to try not to worry about what happened in the past, but stay focused on what is in front of them.
