Additional Description
Summary
Harold Cann, age 16, is a Katrina Survivor from Bay St. Louis Mississippi now leaving on Lyons Avenue in Houston’s Fifth Ward. His interview begins with Harold talking about his childhood and how he started playing basketball at age five being coached by his father. He then goes on to describe the community as small and friendly close knit town, who really loved and participated in all sports. Coming to such a big city has been quite an adjustment for Harold. He is having to face the challenge of adjusting to a co-ed public after being reared in all-boys private school for so long. Harold also expresses his passion to play basketball at the college level one day in the future. He feels as though his neighbors in Bay St. Louis and New Orleans weren’t as prepared as they should have been for Katrina and hopes that the repercussions of the storm has taught people to be more cautious of them in the future.
