Additional Description
Summary
Sherrell Martin [SM], age 38, is a Katrina survivor from the east of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her interview begins with her briefly sharing her pastimes and begins to share with the listening audience what her life was like prior to Hurricane Katrina. From that point Ms. Martin goes into great detail about her family’s journey as they came together with others from the community to meet the common goal of reaching the interstate in search of rescue and safety. After being momentarily separated from her sister as the family commuted to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, they were soon after reunited and brought to Houston by their sister who commuted five hours to come to their aid. Since then, Ms. Martin and her family have lived in Houston.
